Q: What Catholic saint can answer my question?
I'm doing a report on the Jewish Law in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Do you know of any Catholic saints that have talked about the Law? (quotes, teachings, etc...)

A: JESUS SAID ABOUT THE LAW: "Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled. He therefore that shall break one of these least commandments, and shall so teach men, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5: 17-19) St. Paul also spoke about the law. Also try Augustine. My bet, go with Jesus's quote. It is more powerful coming from God Himself than one of his messengers. Hope this helped. God Bless.

A: + Confirmation Name + A Confirmation name is name of a saint chosen by the person to be confirmed. It can be the same as your Christian (Baptism) name. It is pronounced by the bishop during the sacrament of Confirmation. Added to your Christian (Baptism) name, it gives the person confirmed a heavenly patron whom he (or she) should endeavor to imitate. There are thousands of Catholic Saints. Here are a few helpful websites: http://www.catholic.org/saints/ http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/indexsnt.htm http://www.catholic-pages.com/dir/saints.asp http://www.catholic.com/library/mary_saints.asp http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/Saints/faqs.asp http://www.rc.net/africa/catholicafrica/saints.htm http://www.rcan.org/bca/saintslist.htm http://www.angelfire.com/realm/blackcatholics/earlyblacksaints.pg3.html + Confirmation Sponsor + The role of the sponsor is to take care that the confirmed person behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations inherent in this sacrament. A sponsor must be • Selected by the person being confirmed • At least 16 years old •- Fully initiated meaning have received all three sacraments of initiation, Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation • One who leads a life of faith A sponsor must not be • The father or mother of the one to be confirmed • Bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared (in trouble with the Church) It is desirable to choose a godparent as sponsor. Q: Might the list of saints in the Catholic bible be incomplete? Which other to consult to find the missing saint?
I notice that the Saint Index on http://www.catholic.org/saints/stindex.php is missing saints from the Gnostic bible - I'm wondering where other lists of saints might be?

A: Gnosticism, which predates Christianity by a few centuries, teaches: • The physical world is bad • Only spirituality is good • Humans are trapped in between • Salvation comes from knowledge (gnosis means knowledge) • Elitism, only a chosen few will be saved All of which go against the teaching of Christianity • The physical world is good. God said so in Genesis. • Humans are physical and spiritual beings and both natures are good • Salvation comes from grace and not merit • God wants all to be saved http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06592a.htm http://www.deusvitae.com/faith/denominations/gnosticism.html With love in Christ.

Q: I'm looking for a good catholic Saint Name for Confirmation?
I like reading novels, and listening to music. I would like a saint who was smart and kind, and cared for others. Or maybe a saint that enjoyed the same hobbies? I tried looking on the internet, but had no luck and my confirmation is coming up soon. Could you share any ideas you might have? Thanks in advance!

A: There are Saints for every walk of life. Saint Cecilia a Patron Saint of Music. Here is an index of saints by the things they are patrons of: http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/patron00.htm Whichever Saint you choose, I highly recommend picking up a book at your church's gift shop or searching online to get to know them. A confirmation name is more than just another name, by choosing a Saint you are actually asking them to watch over you and guide you. You can always petition he/she in time of need. Saints are in heaven right next to God so look to him/her as your intermediary to pray for you.

Q: Is Bridget the most successful Celtic God, given the transformation from Druidic Goddess to Catholic Saint?

A: I take it your doing some kind of homework/paper/project on celtic folklore? :) Bridit (Bride/Bridget/Brigid) is probably the most famous, as she is heard of in many religions - such as being saint Brigit in the Christian religion. However, many saints were created this way - by taking over celtic or other pagan gods/goddesses or heroes. But yes, I would say Brigid would be the most successful. Unless you are of the belief that the Virgin Mary is the Christian interpretation of The Goddess - in which case She would be the most successful :)
