Q: If you got to a Catholic university and there is a required religion course is it about WORLD religions?
Or is it just about the teachings of Catholic religion
Because I don't want to be taught how to live a good life as a "Catholic"
I would LOVE a class where you learn about all different religions in the world, but not just single Catholicism.
A: It depends on the university. You can study it also on-line
Also great reading is Ravi Zacharias' " Jesus among other gods"
Q: why did the catholic religion get in shock when America was discovered by Colon?
WHY WAS THE CATHOLIC RELIGION SO JELOUS WHEN AMERICA WAS DISCOVERED BY COLON?
WHAT WAS THE EXCUSE FOR THE PEOPLE WHEN IT HAPPENED?
A: I am trying to make sense out of this question. Let's see if this is what you are trying to ask.
"Was the Catholic Church hierarchy troubled by discovery of a previously unknown new world? If so, how did the leaders of the Church explain the discovery to the people of the Church?"
Contrary to a previous answer, the educated people in Europe including those in the Church were long aware that the world was round.
Colon [Columbus] probably never realized that he had discovered a whole new hemisphere. He did recognize that he had discovered unknown lands, but wrote that they were part of Asia. He always claimed that one of his purposes of exploration was to convert souls to the Church.
The Church sent missionaries with Columbus on his subsequent three voyages and with all voyages by other explorers from Catholic countries. There is no contemporary evidence of "shock" or "jealousy" in the church hierarchy when news of Columbus' voyages spread. From all evidence, the Church viewed the discoveries as opportunity to convert more people and lands to Catholicism.
Q: Is there anything special or unique about the catholic religion?
I am writing an essay on the catholic religion and was wondering if there is anything unique about it?
A: Look, I'm a Catholic, or was...since I'm a Pastafarian now...anyways...no, I won't be telling you that it is the best church ever, but it's not the heretical church that the protestants make us out to be.
We do have our saints, which is unique if you compare the Catholic church to the protestent sects - and the Virgin Mary is a huge part of our belief system, as well.
In every country, there are many celebrations of Catholic holidays and of the saints, every celebration is unique. I know that in Mexico, if a small town is named after a saint, then on the saint's feast day, there is usually a huge celebration in that saint's honour.
Another unique aspect of the Catholic Church would be the vows of celibacy for clergy members, as well as the holy orders (Such as the Fransiscans or the Benedictine monks).
We also have the Pope, which is not found in other Christian sects.
We also believe in transubstiation and have several rites (Baptism, first communion, confirmation, marriage or vocational service, and i think visits to the sick and dieing.)
Finally, the best part: Art patrons! Who paid Michaelangelo and other painters for their paintings? The Church.
There's also the dark side:
-Crusades, Inquisition, brutal conquest of Mexico and South America....
Q: Are tarot cards against the catholic religion?
I want a set and learn how to read them, and i heard that it's against the catholic religion. I don't care if it is, i just want to know.
A: probably. Whatever. If you get some email me and I'll teach you everything I know about tarot cards. I learned from my dad who does astrology and astronomy and reads tarot cards. He's very good.
I'm protestant congregationalist and i read them. So far, God hasn't smited me so I think I'm good. They aren't satanic or anything so whatever :)

A: To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it. -- Mother Teresa
Christ said, "I am the Truth"; he did not say "I am the custom." -- St. Toribio
No earthly pleasures, no kingdoms of this world can benefit me in any way. I prefer death in Christ Jesus to power over the farthest limits of the earth. He who died in place of us is the one object of my quest. He who rose for our sakes is my one desire. Do not talk about Jesus Christ as long as you love this world. --St Ignatius of Antioch
Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to Heaven. -- Pope St. Pius X
Celebrate the feast of Christmas every day, even every moment in the interior temple of your spirit, remaining like a baby in the bosom of the heavenly Father, where you will be reborn each moment in the Divine Word, Jesus Christ. -- St. Paul of the Cross
Q: What is the most important act of worship (in Catholic religion)?
All I need to know is what is the most important act of worship (in Catholic religion)? I have an idea what it might be, but I'm not for sure about it. Can you help me?
Thank you everybody! I was actually deciding between Mass and Eucharist, but I guess I can combine the two.
A: The Mass (with the Eucharist):
• Is the principal sacramental celebration of the Catholic Church
• Was established by Jesus at the Last Supper
• Renews the mystery of our salvation through participation in the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of Christ
In the Mass, we:
• Gather as one family
• Admit our sins, ask God for forgiveness, and the saints and each other for prayer and support
• Glorify God
• Listen to, ponder and reflect on His Word from the Scriptures
• Pray for the Church, the world, those in need, and ourselves
• Celebrate the Eucharist (Holy Communion) in obedience with Christ's command to "do this in memory of me."
• Are sent out into the world to love and serve the Lord and one another
It is called "Mass" (from the Latin missa) because of the "mission" or "sending" with which the liturgical celebration concludes.

Q: What are the important holidays and traditions of the Catholic religion.?
I need to know how has religion shaped the life of Catholics.
What are the challenges if any to practicing this religion.
Who is the founder of the Catholic religion?
How do you feel about the belief of society feeling that some religion promote violence?
What do you think are the causes of and what are your personal thoughts of Priest Scandals?
Which scholars of the Catholic Church do you rely on?
Have you ever had any interest in other religions besides Catholic?
Has the Catholic religion changed over the years, if so how?
Is there any other information you feel I should know about the Catholic Religion?
I am doing a paper concerning these issues and need to get a different views of the Catholic religion.
A: For me, Catholicism was life-changing. I am a convert from Protestantism and finding the truth of God’s Church was like finding home.
The challenges are day to day. The fight is with myself, with my sins. It’s finding the strength and the faith to learn to have more trust in God, to grow in love of Him so that I’ll learn to rely on His strength instead of my own (which I’m terrible at) to overcome my faults. I try to live the faith each day, for my own good and the good of others. I constantly have heaven and hell on my mind.
The founder of Catholicism is Jesus Christ.
All religions have bad histories, but people mistakenly (or purposefully) blame religion for violence instead of the sinners. Just because bad people who happen to be Christian or Muslim or Jewish do bad things doesn’t mean the particular faith is bad. In order to determine the measure of a faith, examine it’s doctrines and beliefs against truth, against God and you’ll see which are false and which one isn’t.
I’m very saddened by the scandals of the priests. Even though only 2% of our priests have assaulted people, that number should be 0. I sincerely pray for the victims, and I also pray for the priests. Both sides need healing.
I don’t know of any scholars offhand; I rely on the catechism and Magisterium of the Church (teaching office).
After discovering God’s Church, I have no interest in other religions.
I relatively new to Catholicism, so I’m not versed on changes, if any.
Other information? I’d encourage you to study the Church further on your own. She is the original church founded by Christ. She is home, and I sincerely pray that others can come to know the joy that I have found.
God bless.

Well I was asked this question alot recently and I always answer that some other religion actually abide by them. But I just want to be more sure then I am now.

Q: Can some one help me with the Catholic religion?
I am looking for help getting some answers to some question. What are the challenges, if any, to practicing this particular religion? Does your religion belief that everyone has a chance to go to heaven? For instance does your religion belief that some one of a different religion will go to heaven? What is the most important ritual of the catholic religion?
A: Check out my sources and read up on all you want. The only challenges are the ones Christ sends you. Anyone who is baptised in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost has a chance,
anyone who has undefeatable ignorance (such as someone who lives somewhere Christianity hasn't reached yet) has a chance,
anyone who dies a martyr for Christ's one true Church has a chance.
The most important ritual? When the priest consecrates a piece of bread so that Christ's body is truly present in it at Mass, and the wine turns into Christ's blood. The priest is offering the same sacrifice Christ offered on Golgotha when He was up on the cross (the cross being His altar), when I say the same, I mean it's the SAME one, because the sacrafice exists outside the limits of time and space.
Holy Communion.
Q: How, when and where did the Catholic religion begin?
How did the Catholic religion evolve into what it is today?
A: I think in 326 AD
Q: Question for Catholics: How does the Catholic religion differ from Christianity?
I am a Christian and in NO way judging Catholics. It just seems to me that both of the religions are somewhat related and I'd like to hear someone's testimony. Thanks! :)
A: First of all, catholics ARE christians.
Q: What is the difference between catholic religion and ortodox?
Im dating somebody that is from the catholic ortodox religion???, i know i am catholic and i would like to know the differences because i dont have too much information about the ortodox religion thanks.
A: Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholics separated from one another in 1054. There are very few theological differences. The main difference is that the Eastern Orthodox Churches (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11329a.htm) use the Byzantine Rite (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04312d.htm) and the Roman Catholic Church use the Roman or Latin Rite.
Pope John Paul II said of the Eastern Orthodox Churches in Orientale Lumen, "A particularly close link already binds us. We have almost everything in common." (see http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_letters/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_02051995_orientale-lumen_en.html )

Q: What is a Catholic religion comparable too?
Is the Catholic religion comparable too; Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism?
A: the Catholic religion is the old Babylonian religion in new threads.
For years I tried to cling to the notion that "true" christians are sabbath-keeping and non-trinitarian. Eventually I realized that Christianity is what it is, Catholics are christians, just as they claim to be.
Catholicism and christianity are descended from Mithra worship whom they call Jesus.
The original Bible religion was never christian, Yahshua, the son of Yahweh is the true savior, not Jesus. The only times you find the word christian in the new testament it is a mis-translation of "anointed ones"
