Q: How can Mormonism be considered Christianity when the two belief systems do not coincide?
The Bible says that there are no other messengers after Jesus, that he is the Son of God and that all other "prophets" are false, but yet the LDS "church" call Joesph Smith their "leader" and "prophet", and the Bible also says that its words are not to be altered, yet the Mormon church as its OWN Bible that is obviously more than a mere "translation" but rather a whole different book entirely? I think Mormonism is a huge cult, I like Mormon people, but disagree with their "religion."
A: Mormonism is not Christian. Here's why:
1) Mormonism rejects the truth that Jesus is God. So Mormonism has a different and fake "god" that cannot save anyone from hell.
2) Mormonism rejects the truth that the only way to get into heaven and to avoid being sent to hell, is by believing in Jesus alone for salvation.
3) Mormonism rejects the truth that only the BIBLE is the Word of God.
For these reasons, Mormonism leads to eternal torment in hell.
To be saved, a Mormon simply needs to believe the truth about Jesus, who is God and Savior from hell. In doing so, they will abandon Mormonism.
Jesus loves Mormons so very much, and Jesus wants them saved out of Mormon false doctrines and the Mormon false gospel that leads to eternal torment in hell (Galatians 1:6-9).
Q: Is Mormonism really anything more than a glorified cult ?
I am just curious, as it seems that Mormonism is just a large cult that has managed to last for a little over 170 years.
A: The socalled 'prophet' Joseph Smith was a liason freemason master who started this Church. Marrying many women and inheriting all of the possessions of the tithe appears to be a motivator as does standing as leadership front to compete with Catholicism and Protestant brands.
The doctrine of mainline practice for The Mormon has been refined enough over the years to negate the beginnings of the false Doctrinal teachings.
There exists no previous dated writings prior to the induction of Joseph Smith as a Mason who was said to have testified that he was not allowed to show anyone the 'gold plates' and then proceeded to show he friends only in secret.
The book of Mormon contains a certain verse drop where the name of one his colleages is dropped in the text out of context whose name was Sam. I would venture to say that the nickname sam is native to the dialect for the 19th century America and does not speak to the antiquity. There exists no archeological evidence for the people spoken concerning in the book of Mormon. The prophet and those who propigated it will probably take most, if not all, of any accounting for this. Also, the book has racial overtones with regards to politics of the time in which it was written of the expansion the west.
Doctrine and Covenants has been the major point of departure for the test of prophet, for some of what was said did not occur.
Q: How can Mormonism be a branch of Christianity?
How can Mormonism be a branch of Christianity? How does believing in Mormon Planet Kolob (see Book of Abraham, etc.) Jesus Christ which is different than Traditional Jesus Christ qualify Mormonism as a branch of Christianity?
I believe in the Jesus of the OT and in the NT. The Jesus of Mormonism is a different Jesus. Please try to convince that your Jesus is the same one found in the Holy Bible. Then may be I will convert to Mormon again. What's that? You believe in a different Jesus who lived in planet Kolob in the council of the Gods. I don't see a planet Kolob mentioned anywhere in the Bible. Sorry, you don't qualify to be a branch of Christianity. No wonder some Mormons tell me that they aren't Christians, but Mormons.
Uh founded by Joseph Smith. Not founded by Jesus Christ just like every religion. Finally someone who is true. Not like the missionaries who told me that *JESUS CHRIST* came to Earth and Founded the Mormon Church.
cadisneygirl you are saying that the usage of different words and terms causes different interpretations of scripture. I agree with that. Your opinion that everyone has their own interpretation of scripture is a very weak opinion because people who say that tend to follow whatever their church tells them to without questioning whether it is morally right to blindly follow their church. It is pure blind faith and Mormonism doesn't support blind faith because it tells us that Education is important, both Science and Religious. How can Science and Light and Truth cause you to leave the Church if you have such a strong testimony?
It can be interpreted as Planet Kolob.

A: You as former LDS should know the answer to this question.
The Prophet Mormon describes these very types of things with a man called Korihor in Alma 30.
As you know Korihor challenged Alma to prove that God does not exist. As you know his answer was that there are too many things in the world that prove the existence of God.
So my question to you is, how can you prove that the Church of JESUS CHRIST is not Christian?
Like any philosophical system, Korihor's doctrine had metaphysical, epistemological, and axiological aspects.
together, they enabled him to convince many to reject the traditional values taught by the Church.
You provide the very same reasoning. You should check and remind yourself what happened to Korihor and ask yourself, why can I leave the Church, but I can't leave it alone?
Q: Who here is not a Mormon who likes studying about Mormonism?
I used to satirically study Mormons, but now it's just out of pure interest and curiosity. I just love the idea of a Modern Prophet...(Wait for the twist)...In America! It's not the whole Nephites and Lamanites thing that is interesting, but the establishment of the church, Deseret, etc. So I was just curious to see if any other person out there likes to study Mormonism that isn't a Mormon.
LOL second poster, like Muhammad is better than Joseph Smith
A: Having a modern prophet is certainly a unique thing about us. I don't see why him being in America would be weird. It's a world wide religion. God created the whole world, not just the people in Jerusalem.
Q: What do you think the awesomest thing about Mormonism is?
I think the Book of Mormon is the awesomest thing about Mormonism.
A: That's a tough one... for me it's probably eternal families
Q: Why is Mormonism considered a Christian sect?
They believe in a prophet after Jesus, much like the Muslims have with Muhammad, and they believe that the Bible had only part of the story correct and other dumb shit.
How are they any more Christians than Muslims are?
A: Because we believe that our Savior, Jesus Christ, came to Earth to atone for our sins and that there is no other way but through Him to gain salvation.
How does that make us not Christian?
Nice language by the way. Kiss your mother with that mouth?
Q: How hard is it to tell your family you are leaving Mormonism?
I know the steps you take to leave the church, but I was wondering more how difficult it is to tell your family. What should I expect when letting them know that I do not believe the things they believe? My entire family is LDS, and several generations worth as well. I do not want to hurt them, but I know they will be just because of the belief system. Are there certain things I should expect and what would be the most effective way to tell them?
A: It is very much like every other challenge when it comes to our families. It is according to how old you are. If you are a mature adult you should be able to make your own choices in life and your family, being a family who choose to live a spiritual life, should love you unconditionally, no matter what you do, or which path you take.
Take courage in our hands, and very positively explain to them why, then say Iove you, give them a hug, and start on your new adventure. That is what it is, an adventure into new things, new thoughts, new challenges./ Makes life really worth living.
Q: how can we make less people convert to mormonism and JW ism?
As in, how can we reduce the converts they have every year? We have many Evangelicals in this country, so what can Evangelicals do to greatly reduce the converting numbers of Mormons and JW's?
A: Well, I think a key thing is to make sure that members of Christian churches are not just thoroughly grounded in the scripture, but that they have an honest understanding of how these religions differ doctrinally. We should expose our children (when they are old enough) to the teachings of Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses. But we shouldn’t just have them read stuff about why those religions are wrong. They should read the writings directly from the original sources. Encouraging critical thinking (intellectual honesty) is a key. Also, the memorization of scripture is helpful. We work on that daily at our home. By the time a child reaches adulthood, he/she should have read the Bible through multiple times – both individually and as a family.
Q: Did Mormonism come about by the Protesting of the Prostestant Church?
As in, was Joesph Smith protesting the Protestant Church the reason for making the Mormon Church?
how old was the girl, because wasn't the legal age younger back then?
A: Nope.
Joseph Smith just wanted an answer to which church to join and he received a very potent answer from Heavenly Father and Jesus to join none of them.
Later on, some time later after that vision, he was troubled about his spiritual state before God and prayed to know his state and the Angel Moroni appeared and stated that God had a work for him to do.
As for the whole Protestant factor, I am not sure how other LDS believe but we believe that the whole schism between Martin Luther and all that was the start of things that would prepare for the restoration. If you go into the whole history of the Protestant religion, the Catholic church was extremely harsh to people who didn't believe in the Catholic faith. If the LDS church had been restored too soon, I have no doubt that LDS members would have been labeled as heretics and possibly burned and gone through so many unpleasant things. Instead it was restored in a period of time with a good deal more of religious tolerance, although not a lot considering all the problems and persecutions the Church went through.
Q: Ex-Mormons: have you ever apologized to someone for trying to convert them to Mormonism?
Do you feel like this is something to at least consider? If you have apologized, what were some of the reactions you've gotten?
A: I don't need any apologies, thanks. Just staying in the "ex" category is apology enough.
Q: How common are ethnic minorities in Mormonism?
How can a "Black Mormon" cope with a religion that has damned him/her from birth?
A: I only ever knew two black Mormons in my time with them, but then I do live in a very white area of the UK.
As to the second question, I truly wonder that myself. Mind you, it does apply to all christians - the mark of Cain was long taken by all Christians to be the origin of the black races.
EDIT:
Several respondants have denied that the Mormon doctrine is racist. The following is in the second book of Nephi, in the book of Mormon:
"And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them."
The following is a quotation of Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon church:
"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so."
The modern church, in accordance with zeitgeist, is not particularly racist. Its history and doctrine, indisputably, are.
Q: The Huckabee team has been calling Mormonism a cult, what's the difference between a cult and a religion?
Should the religion,no matter how goofy, make or break the candidate?
A: The differences between a cult and a religion are very vague in some peoples eyes, but essential a cult is a group of people following a human leader. The Jamestown suicides, the Haley Bop Comet riders, The Heaven's gate, The Waco Texas suicides. These were all cults, people who were followers of a human.
A religion is a set of beliefs, organized or unorganized. Thus, any very strong belief could be a religion. For example, atheism, and even evolutionism is a form of religion.
Q: How do you get Mormonism representatives to leave your property ?
A: Just ask politely and buy a "No Trespassing" sign from Home Depot for $6.99.
Doesn't matter which you use first.
Q: How does the Godhead from Mormonism differ from the Godhead of the trinity?
A: (YES); the Godhead from Mormonism DOES "differ" from the Godhead of the trinity !
Q: Can Mormonism withstand the light of the internet?
Everything it does will now be scrutinized, thus paralyzing decisions, for fear of imperfection. Can that church survive?
.
A: It's the world's fastest growing religion and the Internet has been available for 15 years -
For those who want to believe, research on the Internet is merely another thing to be disregarded.
I'm pretty active in my own church - and have done some research academically and on my own over the Internet - and it really hasn't made much difference in my standard of faith.
If you want to believe, you will. That's all.
