Q: How much would a bar mitzvah at pressure cost?
I am having a bar mitzvah and i would like to know how much it would cost to have a party of around 200 people with the whole place rented out for about 4-6 hours. It is at Pressure Nightclub in NYC.
A: You may be better off asking in the NYC section of travel, but that'll cost as much as a wedding.
Mazel Tov! Don't make your parents go broke!
Q: What Type Of Dress Would Be Appropriate To Wear To My Friends Bar Mitzvah?
As the title says, I am going to my friend's Bar Mitzvah, and have no idea of what to wear. So, is there a certain style I should use/wear? Thanks!
A: Well, if there's going to be a party and it's more of a laid back bar mitzvah then a party dress is fine, some bar mitzvahs are much more formal and you would need a homecoming formal dance type dress, and others are much more traditional and it would be inappropriate to wear anything too revealing or short, so you should ask your friend what type of event it is going to be before deciding. Ask other friends that are going what they are wearing, too. Have fun!

Q: Where can i get a cheap dress that is formal enough to wear to a bar mitzvah?
I am going to a bar mitzvah in June and i've been searching for a formal dress that i can wear to the ceremony. Though I have been looking, I can't seem to find one that is in the right price range and that is pretty. Does anyone have any suggestions for a pretty dress, thats under $40.00?
A: If you've only been shopping in new retail stores, you might want to check out some local thrift stores (like Goodwill) (also called charity shop or hospice shop(UK), thrift shop or thrift store or hospice shop(U.S., Canada), resale shop when not meaning consignment shop (U.S.), or op shop (Australia/NZ, from opportunity shop)). They are not junk stores, a lot of them are very picky about what they will take, quality of available goods has risen greatly in the last few years.
One where I live has some knockout prom/wedding/formal dresses and they're usually priced $20 or below. Chances are, if you find something there, it's only been worn once. Try many different places if you don't find anything you like in the first store you try, I'm sure you'll find something you like, and it will be priced right.
If you find a consignment shop, they might have something, too, but you will likely be close to or exceed your price range, even there. Good luck!
Q: What do you give for someone who is holding a Bar Mitzvah?
How much money do you give someone who is hold a Bar Mitzvah? Do you give the money is cash or check? Oh, and should the card be customized for a Mitzvah (if it's printed from a company) or can it just be a regular Birthday card?
A: Some people give cash, others a check. It is best to get a Bar Mitzvah card, although my brothers and i have received birthday cards. No amount of money is specified. Some people even give gifts or gift cards, not money necessarily.
you can get a Bar Mitzvah card at a supermarket, card store, or even a dollar store
Q: What should I give a boy for his bar mitzvah?
I have a good friend who is going to have a Bar Mitzvah soon. I'm not quite sure what to get him... my family isn't invited so nothing too expensive.
Something besides money or checks please!
A: David's star
Q: What are you supposed to get someone for their Bar Mitzvah?
I'm not Jewish and i've never been to a bar mitzvah before, so what should I get for them?
A: If you don't know the child well, I would suggest a gift certificate to a local book store (or preferably a chain); traditionally, this would be in amounts of $18, 36, or 54 because "18" is the numerical value of the word for "life". If you wanted to give more than about $50, just give it; you'd be more likely to give $100 than $108. If you get to higher amounts, again, you might give $180, 360, or 540.
You could also give cash (or a check), but books are traditional because Bar Mitzvah is the beginning of adulthood--and *learning* to be an adult. It was traditionally when a boy started the equivalent of today's adult education.
Q: how long Bat Mitzvah SERVICES last on a Sunday?
I am going to a Bat Mitzvah tomorrow and I just want to attend the services after. Thanks.
A: OK- this may come as a surprise to some- Bat Mitzvahs on Sunday are COMMON! what you find in many communities is that they have a group pf girls do a combined ceremony on a Sunday- with them all having seperate parties/celebrations afterwards. Its the way it is commonly done here in South Africa in the Orthodox community- since the community follows mainly yekke and Litvak customs I'm not sure where this idea originates from. (The groups are generally based on a group from the same year in one of the Jewish day schools, or all going to the same synagogue). They do NOT read from the Torah- but generally a theme is chosen for the Bat Mitzvah and each girl will give a drosha on it based on Tehillim (Psalms) or something similar.
These ceremonies are usually within the Modern orthodox community- the Chareidi and Chassidic communities do not do Bat Mitzvah celebrations at all due to the issues of Kol Isha and male guests from outside the family being present.
These Bat Mitzvah ceremonies usually last around an hour and are not part of the normal services but outside of them. The idea of a girl having a Bat Mitzvah in the synagogue on Shabbos is a Conservative/Reform one: A girl cannot lead the service and cannot read from the Torah for men in Orthodox communities.
Q: What is a good present to give away at a Bar Mitzvah/ birthday to 13 year olds?
A friend of mine is havung his bar mitzvah and he doesnt kno0w what to give away to his friends. Can you suggest something for under 10 $

A: Well traditionally its money in mutiples of 18.
Q: What's the meaning of saying "today you are a fountain pen" when associated with a Bar Mitzvah?
I believe it's a phrase that is said to a person who has become a Bar Mitzvah. I'd like to find out its meaning.
A: Years ago it was common to give Bar Mitzvah boys fountain pens. They often received so many that the expression arose.
Q: Is it okay to wear the same dress to the Bat Mitzvah services and the party?
This is the first bat mitzvah I've ever gone to, so I'm a bit clueless in these matters. I have an indigo blue dress, basically the only dress I own that doesn't look like every day wear. Is it alright to wear this dress to the religious ceremony, the luncheon, and the after party? Do people generally change? What are the limits on "fanciness" of a dress, if any, for a bat mitzvah?
Thanks for the help! :D
A: It depends on what kinda of party the "after party" is, but usually for the morning service you are supposed to wear dress pants, and a sweater, or a skirt and a sweater or blouse or something like that, and dress shoes. I wouldn't wear your party dress, I don't think it would really be appropriate for the temple/service. Basically, wear something nice that you might wear to church on a holiday or something.
For the luncheon, you can just wear this same outfit because the luncheon usually follows the service, so the same dress code is fine.
For the party, you should wear your dress! I'd wear a fancy dress, but not something floor length or anything, and yours sounds fine! Wear high heels and a little button up sweater or something over your dress too if you live in a cold climate.
Have fun!
One more thing..is the after party later at night, like a few hours after the luncheon? Because if you are supposed to go straight to the after party right to the luncheon just wear the same thing, like your skirt and blouse, but if you are expected to go home and stuff, definitely change into your dress for the party.
Q: Is white a good color to wear at a bat mitzvah?
It's my first bat mitzvah, so I'm confused on what to wear.
A: i dont think the color really matters. if its a morning ceremony, try to keep your outfit more conservative. for example, if you have a strapless or spaghetti strap dress, just wear a shrug or little jacket over it for the ceremony and then you can take it off for the reception after. if you're going to a night party, i'd wear something fancy, like a really nice skirt and top or dress. if its black tie, then thats really nice attire. if its an afternoon celebration, you don't have to be dressed up as much as black tie, but still nice. you should check how formal the bat mitzvah is going to be. jessica mcclintock, guess, and cache have some really nice formal dresses, and forever 21, and wetseal have some casual dresses. depending on the weather, you might want to bring a little jacket too. so really, i dont think the color matters that much. for most bat mitzvahs i just wear a dress. if you're still having trouble, ask the girl who is having the bat mitzvah if the outfit you have is ok. good luck
