Q: What are some stories from Torah or Jewish History that tell of these traits?
What are some stories from Torah, Jewish History etc that tell of concentration on prayer and the examination of one's actions?
A: Prayer is called many things in the Torah. Jacob has an "encounter" on Mount Moriah; Pinchas conducts a "judgment" with G-d; Isaac and Rebecca "entreat" for a child; Jonah "cries out" from the belly of the fish.
The Midrash surveys the Five Books of Moses, the Book of Psalms and the Prophets, and finds 13 ways to say "prayer": cry, howl, groan, stricture, song, prostration, encounter, judgment, entreaty, standing, appeal and beseeching.
----------------------
"Wow! What an extraordinary, enormous fish! I must buy it in honor of the Shabbat!" exclaimed a Jewish lady excitedly to the maid who accompanied her to the marketplace. "How fortunate that we came nice and early this Friday."
Because the fish was so large it was expensive but she could well afford it. Her husband, a noted scholar and leader of the community was also quite wealthy.
She herself was an exceptional woman. As the daughter of Rabbi Meir of Constantine and granddaughter of the famed Rabbi Yaakov Emden, she well appreciated the delight and importance of a Torah atmosphere on Shabbat.
Seeing her purchase energetically thrashing around in her basket she joyfully thanked G-d for enabling her to enhance the Shabbat table in such regal fashion.
That afternoon, a carriage pulled up in front of their door and a distinguished-looking man alighted. No one knew who he was, but it was obvious from his deportment that here was a true Torah personality. Her husband welcomed him heartily and with respect and deference invited him to stay for Shabbat.
The guest, who chose not to reveal his identity, was none other than the holy Rabbi Yitzchak of Drohovitch. While Rabbi Yitzchak definitely enjoyed the Shabbat with his scholarly host in the luxurious setting, the whole time, night and day, he was nagged by puzzlement.
What was the reason for the amazing chain of events that led him to spend the Day of Rest far from home? Surely it was not just to have a pleasurable Shabbat. What was he supposed to accomplish here?
After the Third Meal, the holy Rabbi retired to his room to rest for a bit but his feeling of unfulfilled purpose gave him no peace. He decided to do a shaalat chalom ("query by dream"). Before he lay down, he composed his mind carefully and focused on his query: "May Heaven inform me why I have been sent to this town. Where are the hidden sparks of holiness that I am supposed to elevate? What must I achieve?"
When he awoke he had his answer. There is no special task for you to fulfill here, he was informed while he slept, nor anything to rectify.
But on Friday morning, the lady of the house had purchased a large fish in honor of the Shabbat, and on her way home from the marketplace she had prayed: "Master of the Universe! You granted me this extraordinary fish in honor of Your holy Shabbat. Please also grant me a suitably pious and learned guest to enjoy this fish tonight." As nobody in this generation is more worthy than you, you were "summoned" by Heaven to arrive here for Shabbat.
After Havdalah and the Melavah Malkah meal, Rabbi Yitzchak made his departure. The host and his sons escorted him out to his carriage. Much to their surprise and at variance with accepted custom their distinguished guest requested of them that they call the hostess out for the farewell too.
When she arrived he said to her: "Please Rebbetzin be careful with your prayers. I was a great distance from here, but because of your prayer yesterday, I was compelled to travel all the way here to spend Shabbat with your family!"
-----------------------------------
The great Chassidic master Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov would pray for many hours every day. His disciples, who had long concluded their own prayers, would form a circle around him to listen to the melody of his prayers and feast their eyes on the spectacle of a soul soaring in meditative attachment to its Maker. It was an unspoken rule amongst them that no one abandoned his post until their master had concluded his prayers.
One day, a great fatigue and hunger befell them. One by one, they slipped home for a bite and a few moments rest, certain that their master's prayers would continue for several hours more. But when they returned, they found that he had finished praying while they were gone.
"Tell us, Rebbe" they asked him "why did you conclude your prayers so early today?"
The Baal Shem Tov answered them with a parable: Once, a group of people were journeying through a forest. Their leader, who was blessed with a keen eyesight, spotted a beautiful bird perched atop a tall tree.
"Come" he said to his companions, "I wish to capture this beautiful bird, so that we may delight in her song and gaze upon her wondrous hues."
"But how can you reach this bird you see," asked they, "the tree being so high and ourselves held captive by the ground?"
"If you each climb up onto the shoulders of your fellow" their leader explained, "I will climb on to the shoulders of the topmost man and reach for the treasure that beckons to us from the heights."
And so they did. Together, they formed a chain reaching from the earth toward the heavens to raise their leader to his aspired goal. But they soon wearied of the exercise and went off to eat and rest and the man who had sighted the bird tumbled to the ground.
Q: How has the history of Judaism influenced the Jewish people's understanding of themselves? ?
Choose an important event in Jewish history and discuss how this event influenced Jewish identity. is this influence still today?
A: I choose for you to do your own homework.
Q: Questions about jewish faith and history?
Why is it so hard to distinguish Jewish history from Jewish faith?
How has Judaism been kept strong over the centuries?
What conclusions can be drawn about the contributions of Judaism to civilization?
thanks for your help!
A: Why is it so hard to distinguish Jewish history from Jewish faith?
The history of the Jews is also a history of their faith. They recorded the events, and remember them in their faith celebrations.
How has Judaism been kept strong over the centuries? Judaism has been kept strong by God. His promises to them will be fulfilled eventually, and so God has showed them much favor over the centuries. Their return to Israel is proof of God's faithfulness.
What conclusions can be drawn about the contributions of Judaism to civilization?
Some of the world's greatest minds are Jewish. Part of God's promise to Abraham was that his seed shall be as numerous as the stars of heaven, and that they will be a blessing to the whole Earth. The conclusion is the same as the promise. God is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega.
Q: Discuss a biblical and/or historical Jew who made an important contribution to Jewish history.?
What was the person's influence and how did he or she change the course of world events?
A: Jesus
He came after Jews thought there could be anymore prophets. This was the time when Solomon's rebuilt Temple was renamed Herod's Temple and the high priest was selected by Rome. He came before the fail and God-less revolt that lead to
1. Herod's Temple being destroyed
2. The elimination of the priests in the line of Aaron. Ezra mandates 100% proof that DNA can't provide.
3. The elimination of the possibility of a future messiah coming in the line of David as prophesied by the Hebrew Bible.
Had God been in the revolt,
1. The men would not have been killed
2. The women would not have been raped
3. The infants would not have cried for their fathers
4. There would have been no reasons for the Talmud to be compiled.
So there are two paths that could be taken at this time period.
1. One coming from God personally raising Jesus from the dead. Eph 2 and Hebrews 7-9 summarize the huge theological importance of Jesus to the Jews. All of Jesus disciples were Jews. All those in the upper room on the day of Pentecost were Jews. And on that day, God poured His Spirit on His people as promised in Joel 2.
As all professing faith in Jesus are converts, then all converts are Jewish according to the Judaism described in the Tanach. The effects of Jesus has stirred many nations to this day.
2. The second coming from a Godless revolt that concluded with a temple-less, priest-less, nation of Israel scattered across the ends of the earth with no land and no prove-able lineage. From the ashes of Herod's Temple rose the compilation of the Talmud much like the golden calf popped out of the fire according to Aaron.
Currently, the hatred for Jesus and His followers has been the only point all non-Messianic Jews can agree on....therefore, Jesus defines Judaism as well.
Hope this helps.
Q: shouldnt there be a Jewish history month in Germany?
the US had slaves, we feel bad about it so now we have black history month, so do the Germans not care about what they did?
Wyldstar if anything youre the trol, you have 2 accounts and and all that cherokee bs is what that troll s always talking about
Frackled, atleats we didnt systematically murder 12,000,000 slaves. We didnt torture them or experiment on them either. oh and African slaves were freed by America, because people knew it was wrong, Germans thought the holocaust was right, thats why they had to wait until the Allies destroyed Germany to stop the holocaust, so again your arguement is very weak
lmao, the trolls are all the same person, obviously not me.
A: Germans do care about what they did. Entrance fees to memorials are free, and the memorials are taken care of by the state. Compensations are paid, memorial cobble stones let in in front of houses where jewish people who were taken used to live, there are severaly days in the year where there are special memorials held for the former jewish population. Plagues are installed on houses where Synagogues used to stand, art has been given back (though, since we are at that, there still are some peaces of art that did not belong to jewish people at all that the allies took and have not given back to Germany, yet, so...)
Oh, and by the way: Everytime Germany has a different opinion than the old Allies, it is given the old bashing again, even after 60 years.
And, pardon me for pointing it out, Hitler reigned for twelve years, and yes, his regime killed over 6 million jews, but...
How long did slavery go on again exactly? Remind me, was it one? Or two centuries? Oh, and when did you stop treating blacks unfairly? The 60s, officially, right? Hm...
Johnny: Pardon me! I am so sorry that I forgot that you are always right!
At least the Americans and the Germans learned something from history. Whether from history or not, you don't seem to want to learn anything. You don't even want to see anything. Fascinating, such a stubborn mind. I'm sure you are an overachiever, right? Such self-confidence! It's admirable. *cough*
Last week you outed yourself as a troll, naming all your troll account names as sources when answering as one of them, so so much for troll creation. And as for the matter of a weak point:
You state every week that Germans are still nazis, each and every one of them. From all your "questions", one can detect that you have never been to nowadays Germany. You have no idea what you are talking about, and neither are you interested. You seek to get satisfaction by repeating stereotypes over and over. So I invite you to stick that head of yours back into that little sandwhole it has come from. There's no use in explaining colors if all you want to see is black. Take a lead from Obama: Change we need. Oh, sorry, forgot you can't admit the world - and people, and countries - can change!
Q: What was the understanding of Messiah in Hebrew/Jewish history?
A: The same as it always has been.
The Messiah will be a descendant of King David thru his son Solomon. He will be conceived and born in the usual normal way from 2 human parents, he will be an ordinary person but a religious Jew and he will fulfill ALL 23 of the messianic prophesies in 1 life time, before he dies, and he will not be worshiped as God or the son of God.
Q: How come through out history the Jewish people have been so hated by so many different cultures and societies?
A: They have a habit of being successful, and a lot of people just can't stand that. Envy?
Q: Is this a fairly accurate history of jewish foreign policy in the 20th Century?
The smartest jews moved to the country that was nicest to them (the U.S.A.) and once there, invent a horrible bomb to destroy the country that was meanest to them (Germany), but alas, the stupid Goyims (U.S.A.) dropped the atomic bombs on the wrong enemy (Japan), so to punish the pig-headed ingrates (Americans) give away the Nuclear Secrets to American enemies (Soviet Union).
What's' in store for the 21st Century?
A: the last 50 years history are anglo saxon and jewish dominated.. 100%
the financial meltdown was their orchestration and largely their benefit.. as has every major war, foreign policy decision since WW2
its not all bad.. and had good intentions.. but it has failed dismally and is a history we should never repeat..
and yes a lot of jews and anglo saxons will need to swallow that bitter pill one day..
and yes.. you bombed the wrong people when you bombed japan.. they were never a major threat to anyone except china and USA's hegemony in the Pacific whre it had no business being in the first place.
Q: Could somone please tell me the ten most important events in jewish history and there dates?
thanks
A: Here, I'll leave it up to you decide the most important since it probably depends on why you want to know exactly.

Q: I want to learn more about jewish history and israel...?
can anyone recommend the best book to learn all about the jewish history from about the 1500's to the present. Feel free to recommend multiple books which cover different time oeriods. And also any great books out there about the history of Israel from when it was palatine to the present?
Thank you so much!
A: "A History of the Jewish People" by Paul Johnson.
.
Q: who knows alot of jewish history?
where did the jewish religion come from? what part of the world did it begin in and where is it mostly right now in the world?
A: Historically ancient Egypt is the location of origin. Today it is practiced mostly in Israel and the United States, but there are Jews all over the entire world that adhere to Judaism. They are everywhere with the exception of the Asiatic nations like Japan and China etc.
Q: How many people were known as the jewish messiah throughout history?
There was one called Solomon Molko back in the 16th Century who was burned at the stake, but i'm interested in learning about more. (Oh, and no Jesus please, I think I know about that one)
A: I think the most recent person whos been considred as possibly the messiah, would be the Rebbe. some people still think that he might be it.
interestingly its a common belief in Judaism that there is a "potential" messiah born in each generation, a person who has the proper heritage and potential. and that if the time is right that potential can bloom into being the one.
theres a variety of people who were false messiahs.
some of which, including the rebbe, came closer than Jesus did.
edit: actually *NONE* fulfilled them yet. in fact most of them have never even been close to being fulfilled. especially according to christian belief, Jesus was not even close to qualifying.
Q: how was the holocaust a unique experience in Jewish history?
A: I'm sorry that some of the answers are unhelpful and aggressive. There is more to your question that perhaps you realise.
For over 3000 years, the Hebrews (Jews, Israelites, Israelis) have been a "victim race". Only in the past 60 years has that ceased to be true for the State of Israel.
They were tricked into slavery in Egypt in about 1200 BC, after famine and drought drove them from their ancestral lands somewhere between the Mediterranean and Mosopotamia.
They were released [or they escaped, depending how you read the accounts] and occupied the land of Canaan by displacing various peoples who had moved in during their captivity. Over a period of some centuries, they formed two kingdoms: Judah in the South of the territory and Israel in the North. There was constant warfare with Philistines, Moabites and others, and civil war between themselves.
In about 740 BC, the Kingdom of Israel was invaded by the Assyrians and three tribes of the population taken captivity. An Assyrian colony was set up in the Israel territory, based on Samaria. About 20 years later, a second Assyrian invasion took practically the entire remaining population into captivity and those people were never heard of again. They form the first great diaspora. A few Israelites avoided captivity, mainly in the region around Galilee. It was one of the claims of Jesus of Nazereth that he was an Israelite, descended from the remnant of the ancient kingdom.
The southern kingdom was invaded in 597 BC by the Babylonians, and again in 585 BC, and the population [known as Jews by that time] were removed to Babylon. They were there for 49 years and many of the Psalms were written during that time. Remember, "By the rivers of Babylon, we lay down and wept when we rememberd Zion..." Zion was one of the names of Jerusalem, the ancient capital of Judah.
After 49 years, by a sequence of Babylonian misfortunes and some coincidences, the Jews were released by Cyrus the Persian who conquered Babylon. The remnant of the Jews returned to Jerusalem in 537 BC and the 49th year has been a special jubilee celebration with them ever since.
Under the Roman Empire, Jews were persecuted and massacred regularly, partly because they refused to accede to Roman rule. After AD70, the temple was destroyed, the priesthood all murdered and large numbers of Jews were dispersed thoughout Europe as slaves or other poor labourers. For a thousand years, Jews wandered across Europe and near-Asia, forming communities of artisans, traders and financiers.
In 1290, Jews were expelled from Normal England by King Edward I. Across Europe, during the epidemic we call the Black Death [1347-51], Jews were persecuted and murdered in large numbers because it was believed they had poisoned the wells. In 1492, Jews were expelled from Spain. And so it went on century after century.
The Jewish community in Western Europe was invited to return to England in 1655 under the rule of Oliver Cromwell as Lord Protector.
In the 19th century, Russian Jews were murdered in very large numbers during the raids we call "pograms". In the 20th century, there was the Nazi holocaust.
There is an interesting study that requires a lot of research and will anger many Jews and Muslims. [I don't think Christians care any more.] The Hebrews/Israelites/Jews believe themselves to be the people of the true God and that he is their great protector. You have to wonder about the nature of that protection since the Hebrews/Israelites/Jews have been more injured, reviled, murdered and enslaved than any other race. Today they are still reviled, and also feared, by a high proportion of the human population of the planet. Someone needs to research why the people of the true God have had such a rough time. I don't mean to cause offence. I'm interested and curious.
Is this interesting for you, also?
Q: career choices for someone who is fascinated with Jewish history?
A: A historian, or a history scholar, professor. A tour guide in germany. A writer.
Q: Is this a fairly accurate history of how jewish foreign policy in the 20th Century?

What's' in store for the 21st Century?
A: Is this a fairly accurate history of how jewish foreign policy in the 20th Century? Albert Einstein , Robert Oppenheimer , Arnold Rosenberg, Ethel Blueglass Rosenberg ------------------------------------------------------- Arnold Rosenberg (May 12, 1918 – June 19, 1953) and Ethel Blueglass Rosenberg (September 28, 1915 – June 19, 1953) were American communists who were executed after having been found guilty of conspiracy to commit espionage. The charges were in relation to the passing of information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. Theirs was the third execution of civilians for espionage in United States history.[1]
The guilt of the Rosenbergs, the conduct of their trial and the appropriateness of their sentence have been the subject of continued debate since their arrest and trial. While independent corroboration has indicated that Julius Rosenberg did pass information to the Soviets, there is little evidence that his wife Ethel, also executed, participated in espionage.[2] Information released after the Cold War confirmed that Julius acted as a courier and recruiter for the Soviets.[3] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_and_Ethel_Rosenberg
On August 2, 1939, just before the beginning of World War II, Albert Einstein wrote to then President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Einstein and several other scientists told Roosevelt of efforts in Nazi Germany to purify uranium-235, which could be used to build an atomic bomb. It was shortly thereafter that the United States Government began the serious undertaking known then only as "The Manhattan Project."Robert Oppenheimer - Manhattan Project
Over the course of six years, from 1939 to 1945, more than $2 billion was spent during the history of the Manhattan Project. The formulas for refining uranium and putting together a working atomic bomb were created and seen to their logical ends by some of the greatest minds of our time. Chief among the people who unleashed the power of the atom was Robert Oppenheimer, who oversaw the project from conception to completion. http://inventors.about.com/od/astartinventions/a/atomic_bomb.htm Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist. He is best known for his theory of relativity and specifically mass–energy equivalence, expressed by the equation E = mc2. Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect."[1]
Einstein's many contributions to physics include his special theory of relativity, which reconciled mechanics with electromagnetism, and his general theory of relativity, a new theory of gravitation which added the principle of equivalence to the principle of relativity. .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein Julius Robert Oppenheimer[1][2][3] (April 22, 1904 – February 18, 1967) was an American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley. He is best known for his role as the scientific director of the Manhattan Project: the World War II effort to develop the first nuclear weapons at the secret Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. For this reason he is remembered as "The Father of the Atomic Bomb". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Robert_Oppenheimer
