Q: How come I see so many "First Baptist Church" all the time?
I'm in no way trying to be a smart @ss or anything, but simply curious.
Why is it that some churches use the same name over and over? In my town alone there are two "First Baptist Church." How can there be two first churches, in the same town even?
Ok for once I don't really want sarcastic or any kind of answers like that...I'm serious in this...I wanna know why churches do this....
A: Technically, the first "Baptist" denomination church in each town gets the title.
However, there are other "Baptist" denominations than the big Southern Baptist Association, so each of them might have a "first" church.
There's also the confusion that might be caused by the merger of two municipalities, each of which had its own first Baptist church before the conjunction.
Q: Why would members of the Westboro Baptist Church want to disturb the funeral of victims of an aircrash?
Yesterday occurred a terrible aircrash in my country, the Netherlands, to a Turkish airplane. 9 people died and there are many severely wounded.
Now one of our papers writes that members of the "Westboro Baptist Church" will come over here to "disturb the funeral" because they think the aircrash is a punishment of God.
What is this Westboro Baptist Church? Does it have many members? And what is their line of "reasoning"?
A: There's more to them than meets the eye.
God is punishing us for not hating homosexuals as much as we should so he causes disasters. Their leader is a disbarred civil rights lawyer (oddly he lost his job for reasons that have nothing to do with homosexuality) named Fred Phelps. Before he went on this crusade he fought very, very hard for civil rights for blacks.
They are not alone in their beliefs but they are much more daring and vocal. They display irrationality in other things; their website actively insults visitors.

Fred Phelps himself is way over the top.

This behavior has won them few supporters. In fact it's done the opposite; pretty much everyone except other extreme evangelists thinks he's nuts.
I think he's not nuts. The idea behind his church is not to be loved and win supporters. It's to make people hate them, to shove the truth about evangelical "morals" in our faces. Unfair, but so far it seems to be working. Once a civil rights crusader, always a civil rights crusader.
Q: What Christian song should we sing at a Baptist Church?
My friend and I are to sing a song next week at her Baptist Church. We don't want to sing a hymn, and would love a two-part soprano or alto song. Thanks!
A: These are some of my favorites that aren't hymns: Good luck!
-Above All
-For All You've Done
-My Redeemer Lives
-From The Inside Out
-Here I Am To Worship
-Refiner's Fire
-Shout to the Lord
Q: What is the role of a pastor in a Baptist Church?
I am a member of a Baptist church.I need to know the role of a pastor.Does he make the church announcement, mess with the money, sit people down for know reason and can not explain.Baptist church.
A: Well my pastor has nothing to do with the money received. One church elder is appointed to account for the money and he pays the pastor. Of course the pastor knows numbers but doesn't actually know who has given. If I sit down with my pastor it is because I have requested him to sit with me not because he himself sat me down. Its my choice. He also never pushes "Baptist" in our face. He preaches relationship not religion
Q: What is the equivalent of a Catholic MISSAL in a Baptist church wedding ceremony? Where can I find one online?
We are helping out a friend who will have her wedding this October in a Protestant (Baptist) Church wedding ceremony. In a Roman Catholic wedding ceremony, they have a missal that contains a script of the whole ceremony. Is there such an equivalent for that in a baptist wedding ceremony - one that we can print out and distribute during the wedding so people attending the ceremony will have a guide? Thanks
A: Hi. As a church secretary (Lutheran Church) who has done many wedding bulletins (some call them programs), I would advise your friend to check with the church office before doing anything.
As a service to those who are getting married at the church I work at, I type up and copy the program (along with help from the couple, of course.) So, have your friend FIRST check with the church office if they do anything like this. If not, then proceed on your own.
I don't know how the order is for a Baptist ceremony (I am Catholic myself), but I would think you would be able to find anything you need by doing a simple Google search.
Good luck!
Q: If you seen the landover baptist church website answer this please?
How does those end up at a church like that and fall into their violent ways of thinking? THe Landover Baptist church seems to be pretty much on hate. How does one want to have anything to do with that place?
A: It's parody, oh and the Jesus thong underwear is funny.
Q: How do I make a satire out of the Westboro Baptist Church?
I want to write a satire of
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church
for class.....help?
How do I make something so serious funny?
A: They pretty much parody themselves, but the following link may help you:

Good luck.
Q: I'm getting married in May 2009, in a baptist church, on a budget. Any ideas on decorating the church cheap?
I am getting married in May 2009, and have a tight budget to work with... we are getting married in a small town baptist church. The reception will be outside of the church in the pavilion. I want my wedding to be as beautiful as possible without breaking the bank. Any ideas to make my wedding pretty and reception wonderful on a budget?
A: get a couple of nice flower arrangements... for the sactuary.... in front of altar and pulpit.
use the churches candle abras, if they have them....... if not.... have a couple pedestals, along the back wall with smaller flower arrangements.
Q: I am looking for some suggestions for a Southern Baptist church in the Wake Forest/Raleigh area. Any ideas?
I will be moving to Wake Forest in a couple of months, and I am looking for a good Southern Baptist church in that area. Specifically, I am looking for a large church with a strong children's program, a decent college program, and a emphasis on community outreach (a social ministry or church community office would be a major plus). Any suggestions?
Thanks for the info. I've already looked there though. I was really looking for a personal recommendation.
A: Although I'm not Baptist, I continually hear great things all the time about Pullen Memorial Baptist on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.
It's near NCSU so it has a good college program, I would think. It's fairly big and long-established. Very active in the community from what I hear. It's worth taking a look at.
Q: LGBT People: What do I do, the Westboro Baptist Church crazies might be coming to my town?
I'm not gay or anything but with everything they say is wrong. I am ashamed and they should be ashamed they call themselves "Christians" What do I do if they come to my town? Should I try to tell them off even if it won't do anything or make signs like "GOD HATES WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH"?
A: First off, on behalf of all of the other sane Baptists and Christians alike, we do not, in any way, condone, accept, or agree with the beliefs of the Westboro Baptist church. Though I do not agree with gay/lesbian relationships, I do not feel that they should in any way die for their actions. God sees our sins as equal. So, to wish a homosexual to die is just as bad as being homosexual. In the same sense, Christ did not die for us and our sins so that He could send homosexuals to hell. He died because He loves us, this includes homosexuals as well. He doesn't like their homosexuality, but continues to love them nonetheless. I think the best way to deal with these people is to get the Patriot Guard involved. We had a soldier who was KIA in my town here in Texas, and I doubt that the WBC even gave it a forethought. It's not illegal for them to protest, but it is very very very upsetting that they would do such actions. It hurts me to know that they would refer to our soldiers as "lazy idiots with nothing else better to do than fight for a country full of fags." Inform someone in an official city position about the offense that WBC causes. Most of all: Pray for them. They need Christ just as much as those who are lost.

Q: I need to know who to contact if there is a serious problem with a pastor of a First Baptist Church. Thanks?
I am not a Baptist myself therefore I need to know who to contact regarding a serious problem with a pastor of a Baptist Church, someone who the pastors of Baptist Churches report to/are held accountable to. Your reply is very much appreciated
How do I find out who the elders are for a particular Baptist Church. Their web site does not list any. Thanks
A: I'd think you'd need to find out who the elders are of the church (church officials), and tell them, or one of them. They have the power to reprimand the preacher. If they really care about the state of the church, and the church members, they'll investigate the guy. Is this an ethical thing, or legal issue? If it's a legal issue, then cut to the chase, and call the proper legal authorities. If not, take it to the eleders, and deacons... These people have the power to boot him out!
Q: What are the fundamental differences between the First Baptist Church of 1969 and the First Bapist Reformed?
A: "I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said "Stop! don't do it!"
"Why shouldn't I?" he said.
I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!" He said, "Like what?"
I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?" He said, "Religious."
I said, "Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?" He said, "Christian."
I said, "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?" He said, "Protestant."
I said, "Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" He said, "Baptist!"
I said, "Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?" He said, "Baptist Church of God!"
I said, "Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?" He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God!"
I said, "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?" He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!"
I said, "Die, heretic scum," and pushed him off.

Q: In my first 18 years of life at a Baptist church, I saw a pastor divorce his wife and marry his secretary...?
I saw a youth minister impregnate a youth, and then marry her.
This took place in a Baptist church in a small town.
How much of this crap have you seen? If this is any indication of what happens on a larger scale in larger congregations and cities...then this is pitiful.
Why do fundamentalists continue to point fingers at others in this world...instead of cleaning up their own house? Why are so many fundamentalists such hypocrites? Are they pointing their fingers at others...to try to keep people from looking at them?
A: Because many "fundamentalists" are not Christians. They do not follow the ways of Christ.
That doesn't mean that Christ's message is wrong. It only means that people are sinful and many who think they are saved are not.
When we genuinely put our faith in Christ, our lives are changed. We will still sin, but we work every day towards living like Christ.
I'm sorry that you were soured by that experience. Its especially bad when those in leadership positions in the church fall, because they bring down many with them. But judge Christianity by Christ and by God, not by those that say they follow it.
Would you judge science by a scientist who constantly followed superstition rather than scientific methods? No. Niether judge Christianity by false converts.
God bless!
Q: Who organizied the first "Negro baptist" church in the American colonies?
A: If I am not mistaken, it was the Independant Free African of Philadelphia in 1787. The (A.M.E. Church) African Methodist Episicoal Church was founded by Richard Allen in 1816. (Philadelphia)
Q: What do you think of the trail of blood (history of the Baptist church)?
This book shows the history of the Baptist Church. It says it ancestor, the anabaptist were persecuted during the roman Catholic rule. It also states that the anabaptist came from the original churches that the apostle established. It also says that their belief has not changed since then.
A: It is true, but its worth noting that Anabaptists suffered equally under the Protestants as well as the Catholics. The Baptists however are Protestants and share only adult baptism with Anabaptists.
