Q: What are the requirements for my baby to have a christening in the Philippines?
I am planning to have a Christening in the Philippines in Cebu Argao this March..What are the requirements?

A: P500 to the priest in advance and a Catholic parent to fill out the paperwork. You also have to sit through a 20 minute lecture given in a droning monotone language that is understood by nobody present.

Q: What Gift ideas can you reccommend for a Christening?
My sister in law is having a joint christening for her 9 and 1 year old boys. I haven't got a clue what to get the eldest, youngest i thought of first curl box or photo frame. Didn't want to spend too much, up to £15 each.

A: I've always found that hard since I think clothes and toys aren't appropriate but much of what might be is very expensive. How about a chain with a cross on it that they could have later when they're older? Or maybe one of those frames that has their names and the date of their christening on it? When all else fails, I give money.

Q: Does anyone know of a good restaurant for a christening party in the Nassau County area?
I'm looking for a restaurant for a christening party for about 50-100 people. I live in Franklin Square, NY and I'm looking for something that is all inclusive and reasonable in price and decent for kids being that half of the guest list is under 13 years of age. No sarcastic answers please. Thank You for your help in advance.

A: Look into piccolos in bellmore.I dont know how many people they can hold, but prices and food are good.

Q: Does anyone know of any venues to hold a christening party near streatham, london?
I am wanting to hold a party after my sons Christening. But I am finding it impossible to find a hall that hires out a full Sunday. We want to provide our own food, drink and music. So the venue needs to have kitchen facilites. I am in desperate need, as the Christening is in 2 weeks. Money is a bit tight, so has to be a reasonable price. Please can anyone help?

A: Well, I am so far away from you. But I got some results from my search and I hope it helps you: http://www.totaltravel.co.uk/travel/greater-london/london-south-west/tooting-streatham/activities/sport/10787201 http://www.streathamlife.co.uk/ http://www.2day.ws/streatham

Q: What is the best christening present you could get?
Hi it's my niece's christening soon and I'd like to get my brother and his wife something nice for the baby, only thing is that Im useless with kids and haven't a clue what to buy them. Any ideas? I only have about 60 euro to spare... (for anyone who doesn't know what a christening is-it's the baptising of a newborn baby who it catholic)

A: I recommend a keepsake gift like a silver rattle engraved with the baby's name, a beautiful blanket with the baby's name embroidered on it or a memory book with family photos in it. You could also buy a savings bond for the baby that the parents can save toward his or her education. Hope this helps. Best Wishes, Dreamingscribe

Q: What's a good christening present for a godmother to get for a baby?
My best friend is 3 months pregnant, and has asked me to be godmother :-D What's a traditional present for a godmother to buy as a christening present, I've already been told that a bangle or a silver spoon are traditional but is there anything else? Thanks :-)

A: We got two things I really liked: one was a ceramic cross for hanging above the crib, with the verse from Samuel "for thee I have prayed" on it. The second was a First Bible Board Book - just what it sounds like - some very basic bible stories in a board book edition that is safe around your baby! I think this would be a very appropriate gift, esp if it was followed up later by a toddler illustrated bible, a teen bible, and an adult bible, at the appropriate ages. For girls, jewelry is often apppropriate - like you said, a charm type bracelet to which charms can be added for later special events. In the catholic tradition, it is also common for the small saint medals to be given, either for wearing later or for hanging over the crib. Personally, I'm not sure what a silver spoon does except sit around and collect dust :P

Q: How can I get white lace that has yellowed over 30 years back to white on Christening gown? A sure remedy need
My 30 year old daughter's Christening gown has hand sewn lace at bottom. The gown is pure white, but the lace over the years has yellowed somewhat (not a lot). I used ritz whitening and something for yellowing, but it is just a few shades off WHITE! Does anyone have a sure remedy, because my daughter is having a baby girl and I would love for her to wear her mommy's gown. My daughter thinks the difference in color is too obvious, so I really want a sure fire fix! Thanks to anyone who can help!

A: If the Mrs. Stewarts doesn't work. I know you can try the fresh lemon juice and waterbath on the lace, and put it in the sun to remove the stains. This works great on stained antique tablecloths. As a last resort you can carefully remove the lace to clean it as the gown itself may not withstand all the washings. Hand stitching it back on isn't that difficult. If it doesn't come clean then just remove it, and or replace it. Natural yellowing comes with age and fibre content and sometimes cannot be removed. Good Luck

Q: What should I get my friend's baby niece for a christening present?
I have met my friend's family several times and she has asked me to be her 'plus one' for her niece's C of E christening because her boyfriend can't attend. Should I get a gift for the baby, if so, what kind of gift is traditional?

A: It is traditional to buy something in silver for a Christening gift, maybe a silver bracelet that baby can wear now or a silver chain and pendant that can be kept. You can get the baby's name engraved on it but that's not essential.

Q: What should I get my goddaughter for a Christening gift?
My brother asked me to be the godmother of his soon to be born baby girl. I am not Catholic so I am pretty unfamiliar with this, what would be an appropriate Christening gift?

A: my friend chose one of her oldest friends to be the godmother for her daughter and this is what she did...... She bought a ring for Katie (mom) to wear until the baby is old enough to have her confirmation, where the ring will then be presented to the daughter. That way she isn't giving her something arbitrary, the ring will then become a heirloom to be passed down through generations. I though it was a beautiful idea, but not sure if it fits your budget.

Q: What type of present should I purchase for a christening?
It is for my neice, I have never been to a christening before. Thanks!

A: I am going to a christening soon, and recently I got the little baby a keepsake box, its made of shiny metal and has a place to put a picture in! Thing like that will do! But make sure they're not tacky (I.E. Twee teddies and ducks all over some cheap plastic) Heres a list: 1.A plate with her name, weight and date/time of birth (or christening) on it, she'll feel really glad to have that in a few years time! 2.Clothes, nice dresses/hats/shoes etc 3. A musical insturment! Hope this helps, also a scrapbook might be a nice idea!

Q: How do you go about organising a baby's christening?
My husband and I live in Australia, and we need some general tips, on how to and what to do in regards to our baby daughter's christening, as we dont have family to help us through the process... For example: * Do we need to register it? * How far in advance do we need to book it? * How much does it cost? * WHAT DO WE DO?

A: Hi, I am in Queensland. We had our kids baptised in the Lutheran church (i am lutheran, hubby is anglican but we aren't practicing christians) and basically all you have to do is ring the church you want of the denomination you want, (lutheran, baptist, catholic etc...) and speak to the pastor/father and tell them you would like to have your child baptised. He will then get your details and most likely ask you some questions about your faith and why you want to baptise. He may also schedule a meeting to meet with hubby, you and the baby, usually they will travel to your house, and this is when he finalises when you will actually perform the ceremony and details of god parents. One or two sets of godparents is normal. My daughter had two singles people and my son had two couples. Usually it is done during the course of a normal church service. It doesn't cost any money to baptise but the normal thing to do is offer a donation to the church or contribute to the offering plate when it comes around during the service. It really is dead easy to organise and costs 'nothing'. All you have to do is ring the church you want. Usually 6 weeks notice or more is preferred but it would really depend on the church itself and what other things they already have planned. Good luck and congrats on bubs! you can email me at cindy.v.14@hotmail.com if you need anyother info or happen to live in qld!

Q: Where could I find a sewing pattern for a boy blessing/christening outfit?
I can't seem to find a pattern I am looking for, if it even exists. I want a newborn pattern for a blessing/christening outfit for a boy that looks more like a Tux, with a jacket and everything.

A: Look for a 'suit' pattern in the bridal section of the pattern books and adjust to your tastes, shorts instead of long pants for example. I have seen lots of baby suits there as they are the ring bearers. Good luck!
